We have a new theme this month. The theme is "Colors All Around!"
Some of the things we will be learning:
-Letters, "S", "M", and "R" (Letter names and sounds).
-Words "I" and "see".
-Primary (red, yellow and blue) and secondary (orange, green and purple) colors.
-Color Words
-Story Problems
-1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
-Reading from left to right and recognizing that letters make words and words make sentences.
-Sequence in book.
-Predicting what might happen in a story based off of the pictures and title.
-Sorting by size, shape and color.
Activties to work on at home...
- Practice letters (sounds and names)
-Have students find things around the house that begin with the letter /s/, /m/ and /r/.
-Place stuff animals, dolls, cars in a line. Have your child point to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
- Place 3 tsp. of white frosting on a plate. Using food coloring, put one drop of red in one tsp. of frosting, one drop of yellow in another, and blue in another. Have child mix in food coloring with a pretzel. Then have your child mix different colors to make their secondary colors. We did this in class and the kids loved it!
-While reading, talk about the different parts of a book (Cover, title page, author, illustrator, words, letters, sentences, etc.), where to start reading and what direction to read.
-The students will bring home 2 paper books, "I" and "I see". Have the students color and practice reading these books at home.
-To develop their fine motor muscles have students play with close pins. They can clip the close pins onto anything that makes the /s/, /m/ or /r/ sound.
-Have students sort their laundry by color.
